Privacy Policy

The short version

MorningGuard does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on our servers. We don't have servers. Everything the app knows about you lives on your iPhone. We have no ability to see your blocked apps, your journal entries, your location, or anything else.

Who we are

MorningGuard is an iOS application. You can reach the team at hello@morningguard.app. This policy describes how the app handles information on your device.

Data we do NOT collect

To be explicit: we do not collect, share, or sell any of the following:

Data processed on your device

The app accesses the following types of data locally on your device only. None of it leaves your phone.

Screen Time (FamilyControls)

MorningGuard uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) in individual mode, the same technology you can enable yourself in Settings › Screen Time. It allows the app to shield selected apps during your morning window. Apple's design prevents MorningGuard from reading the specific app tokens you select; the selection is stored as opaque cryptographic tokens that only your device can interpret.

Microphone & Speech Recognition

If you use the voice dictation feature, MorningGuard requests access to your microphone and uses Apple's Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer) to transcribe your words. Audio processing uses Apple's on-device and/or server-side speech recognition (depending on your device). We do not receive or store any audio or transcription data. You can revoke microphone and speech access in Settings › Privacy & Security.

Camera

The Morning Light step uses your device's camera as a light meter to estimate how bright your surroundings are. The camera feed is processed in real time on your device to read a light level only. No photos or video are captured, saved, or transmitted, and the camera is used solely while that step is open. You can revoke camera access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera.

Motion sensors

The Morning Light step uses your device's accelerometer (Core Motion) to detect phone orientation, allowing the camera light meter to work correctly. Motion data is used in real time and is never stored or transmitted.

Location

The weather feature uses your approximate location (coarse, not precise) to fetch local weather conditions. Location data is passed directly to Apple's WeatherKit API and is not stored by MorningGuard. You can revoke location access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.

Local Notifications

MorningGuard schedules local notifications for affirmations and guard status updates. These are generated entirely on-device and are not routed through any server. Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) is not used.

Local storage

All app settings, routine preferences, journal entries, and guard configuration are stored in your device's local storage (UserDefaults and App Group containers shared between the main app and the Screen Time extension). This data is included in your iCloud backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled; it is not accessible to us.

Third-party SDKs and services

MorningGuard does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash reporting services. The only third-party network request the app makes is to Apple's WeatherKit API for weather data, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy

MorningGuard is intended for users aged 17 and older and is not directed toward children. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on this website.
